Women to play first game of a doubleheader with the men’s team to welcome in basketball season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Crimson Tide women's basketball team will tip off its 2016-17 season on Friday, Nov. 11, against New Orleans at 5 p.m. CT. The game will be the first in a doubleheader with the men's basketball team at Coleman Coliseum, as they will follow with an 8 p.m. CT matchup against Coastal Carolina. Admission is only $6 to attend both games.

THE BROADCAST
- Friday's game will be broadcast on SEC Network + with Eli Gold on play-by-play and Rick Moody as the analyst.
- The game will also be available via the Crimson Tide Sports Network on 93.3 FM and 790 AM locally, with Roger Hoover and Tyler Williams calling all the action.
- Fans will be able to follow along with live scoring on RollTide.com and game updates will be available on Twitter via @AlabamaWBB.
THE SERIES
- Alabama played a home-and-home with New Orleans during the 1989-90 and 1990-91 seasons to start the series.
- The third, and last, matchup came in Tuscaloosa on Dec. 21, 2014, where the Crimson Tide prevailed, 87-58.
ABOUT ALABAMA
- The Crimson Tide returns seven letterwinners from a season ago, including four with starting experience.
- Hannah Cook and Meoshonti Knight started all 31 contest throughout the 2015-16 campaign and were the No. 1 and No. 2 scorers at 12.0 points and 10.1 points per game, respectively.
- Quanetria Bolton followed with 9.8 points per game, in addition to 4.1 rebounds and a team-high 41 blocks.
- Shaquera Wade, who played in 30 games and made nine starts as a freshman last year, chipped in 6.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.3 steals per outing.
- Junior Ashley Williams, a 2014 Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team honoree and the team's 2014-15 leader in points (13.7 ppg) and rebounds (6.1 rpg), is also back in the rotation after sitting out last season.
- New to the roster is a pair of true freshmen and four transfer student-athletes.
- Jordan Lewis comes in as one of the most highly-touted signees out of the state of Florida after earning multiple player of the year honors. Joining Lewis is Ashley Knight, who stands at 6-5 and was ranked the No. 16 post in the nation in the espnW 100.
- Coco Knight and LaKyesha Stennis were added to the roster in late April after both having earned All-America honors at the junior college level.
- Alana da Silva, also a junior college All-American, hopped on board nearly one month later to complete the 2016-17 roster.
ABOUT NEW ORLEANS
- Headlining the list of returning veterans for the Privateers is rising junior Randi Brown, who earned third-team All-Southland Conference honors after leading the team with a 17.3 points-per-game average. Joining the Preseason All-SLC selection is Shania Woods, who, as a freshman, averaged 7.3 points and 5.5 rebounds a contest last season.
- In all, the Privateers have nine returnees from a season ago to go along with six newcomers for 2016-17.
- New Orleans averaged 61.0 points and 40.1 rebounds per game as a team during the 2015-16 season.
- New Orleans is under the direction of Keeshawn Davenport, who is in her sixth season as head coach of the Privateers and 14th season overall with the program. She became the first former UNO women's basketball player to be named head coach in 2011. A four-year letterwinner, Davenport saw action in 100 contests and made 32 starts for the Privateers. Davenport averaged 6.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest over her career while serving in the role of co-captain during her senior season.
CRIMSON TIDE ROLLS IN EXHIBITION MATCHUP
- Juniors Meoshonti Knight and Ashley Williams chipped in 16 points each to lead Alabama offensively in an 86-34 victory in exhibition play against West Alabama in Coleman Coliseum.
- Joining Knight and Williams in double figures was freshman Jordan Lewis, who got the start at point guard in her Crimson Tide debut, with 14 points and junior Quanetria Bolton, who added 12 points.
- Sophomore Shaquera Wade led Alabama in rebounds and steals with nine and five, respectively, to go along with her eight points.
- As a team, Alabama connected on 41.5 percent (27-65) of its attempts from the floor.
- The Tide took advantage of its 40 trips to the free throw line, knocking down 30.
- Alabama forced 32 Tiger turnovers, 25 of which were steals.
#CATCHUSATCOLEMAN
- On May 31, Alabama women's basketball announced it would be returning to Coleman Coliseum starting with the 2016-17 season.
- The women's basketball team split time between Foster Auditorium and Coleman Coliseum from 1974-81, until permanently moving to Coleman from 1981-2011.
- The Crimson Tide reopened Foster with its game against Florida on Feb. 13, 2011, following an extensive renovation of the building.
- Since then, women's basketball has played all but four of its home games, which includes two season-opening doubleheaders with men's basketball and a pair of 5th Grade Fastbreak games, at Foster Auditorium.
