Former Alabama players have big days on both sides of the ball
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Below is a look at some of the highlights from last week by former Crimson Tide players currently in the NFL.
Posting his second consecutive 100-yard performance, Amari Cooper hauled in a career-high 10 passes for 129 yards in the Oakland Raiders' 26-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Late in the second quarter, Cooper grabbed the 107th pass of his career to set the record for most receptions by an Oakland player in his first two seasons despite being only six games into his sophomore campaign. On the year, he ranks third among all wideouts in receiving yards (585) and sixth in yards after the catch (208) and receptions (36).
Julio Jones had another monster game, finishing with seven catches for 139 yards and a touchdown as the Atlanta Falcons fell to the Seattle Seahawks, 26-24. The All-Pro receiver currently leads the league in receiving yards (656) and yards after the catch (247), while ranking second in yards per catch (21.2) and fifth in touchdown catches (4).
In his best game of the 2016-17 season, Dont'a Hightower led the New England Patriots' defense to a 35-17 come-from-behind victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. Hightower finished with a team-high 13 tackles, including two for a loss, and 1.5 sacks. Trailing 14-10 in the third quarter, Hightower sacked quarterback Andy Dalton to begin the Patriots comeback.
The New York defense, led by Landon Collins, helped lead the Giants to a 27-23 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. Collins notched 12 stops on the day, including two for a loss, and a sack. The second-year standout currently leads all safeties and ranks third among all defenders with 41 solo tackles, while also leading the Giants in sacks with two.
Continuing his solid play, Mark Barron recorded seven tackles in the Los Angeles Rams' 31-28 loss to the Detroit Lions. Barron ranks second on the team in tackles with 46 and is sixth among all linebackers with 37 solo tackles.
Ha Ha Clinton-Dix notched seven tackles as the Green Bay Packers fell to the Dallas Cowboys, 30-16. Clinton-Dix currently leads the Green Bay defense in solo stops with 22.
