Women's Golf Begins 10th Straight NCAA Championships Friday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama women's golf team opens play at the 2015 NCAA Championships Friday, May 22, at The Concession Club, a par-72, 6,468-yard layout in Bradenton, Fla.
It is the 10th straight appearance in the NCAA Championships for head coach Mic Potter in his 10 years in Tuscaloosa. Alabama has registered five straight top-10 finishes at NCAAs, including the program's first NCAA Championship in 2012 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.
The Crimson Tide is coming off of a tie for fourth-place at the NCAA Raleigh (N.C.) Regional. Alabama Tide will play the first two rounds with Texas Tech and Purdue. UA is slated to tee off at 11 a.m. (CT) in the first round on Friday, May 22, from the No. 10 tee. The Tide will go off No. 1 at 6:30 a.m. (CT) Saturday, May 23.
Junior Emma Talley leads the Crimson Tide into the NCAA Raleigh Regional. She boasts a 72.68 scoring average that ranks as the eighth-best single-season mark in school history. Talley has totaled six top-10 finishes in 10 starts, and 96.4 percent (27 of 28) of her rounds have counted toward the team score.
Joining Talley in the lineup is junior Janie Jackson, who is making her third start in the NCAA Championships (one at Alabama and one at Arizona. Sophomore Mia Landegren and Cammie Gray are making their second starts in the NCAAs while freshman Lakareber Abe makes her first trip to the NCAA Championships.
Alabama is making its 10th appearance under Potter's direction and their 11th overall. The Tide also competed in seven AIAW Nationals from 1975-81. The Crimson Tide are joined UCLA and Southern California as the only teams to qualify in each of the last 10 years.
The 2015 NCAA Championships will have a new format, following in the footsteps of the men's championships and determining a champion by match play. The tournament begins with three rounds (54 holes) of stroke-play qualifying with a cut to 15 teams and top nine individuals for Monday's fourth round of stroke play that will determine an individual medalist and the eight teams for match play.
The quarterfinals and semifinals of match play will be play on Tuesday, May 24, with the winners advancing to Wednesday's 18-hole National Championship Match. The Golf Channel will broadcast live from the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships with the final three days (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) carried live.
