Men's Tennis Outlasts South Carolina, 4-1

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The 71st-ranked men's tennis team earned a 4-1 victory over No. 45 South Carolina on Friday at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. With the win, the Crimson Tide moves to 15-14 overall and 3-7 in the Southeastern Conference, while the Gamecocks fall to 12-12 on the season and 2-7 in league play.
Alabama got off to a hot start, earning the doubles point thanks to wins on courts one and two. After a bit of a run by South Carolina on court one, No. 29 Korey Lovett and Becker O'Shaughnessey were able to put the Gamecocks away, topping No. 31 Kyle Koch and Thiago Pinheiro, 6-3. Almost immediately after, Sean Donohue and Stuart Kenyon earned a convincing win on court two with their 6-2 victory over Thomas Mayronne and Sam Swank, giving the team the early 1-0 lead.
The Gamecocks bounced back in singles, tying the match up at 1-1 with Koch's 6-4, 6-2 win over O'Shaughnessey on court two. Alabama took the lead back shortly after, when Sam Edwards downed Sam Swank on court six, 6-4, 6-3. Pulling Alabama within one point of the win was Danny Kerznerman on court five, who defeated Mayronne in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Clinching the match for the Tide was Kenyon on court four, with his come-from-behind 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Pinheiro. Both Lovett and Nikko Madregallejo were in third sets when the match was called.
The Tide will close out its home slate on Sunday, hosting No. 6 Georgia at 1 p.m. CT.
