HOOVER, Ala. -- The Alabama women's golf team placed fifth by firing a final round 8-over par 296 to finish the 54-hole tournament at 20-over 884 for the SEC Championship, which was played at the par-72, 6,308-yard Legacy Course at Greystone Golf and Country Club.
This marks the seventh consecutive year that Alabama has finished inside the top five at the SEC Championship, dating back to the 2009 second-place finish.
"Our scores are improving and we are playing better, but we are still making a lot of silly mistakes," Alabama head coach Mic Potter said. "Between now and regionals we have a lot of improving to do. There are a lot of shots that we are going to have to save if we're going to be successful."
Emma Talley continued her stellar play, by carding her second consecutive under-par round with a 2-under 70. Talley has now earned 12 rounds of par or lower this year, and 39 for her career, which is fifth all-time in UA history.
The junior tied for sixth at 3-under 213. During the final round, Talley managed to birdie hole No. 17, which, throughout the weekend, had played most difficult. Through the three-round event, No. 17 only surrendered 12 birdies. The top-10 finish marks Talley's fifth of the season, and the 13th of her collegiate career.
Recording her highest individual finish by tying for 20th, sophomore Mia Landegren also set a new 54-hole personal best with her 5-over 221. Landegren shot a 3-over 75 for the final round.
Janie Jackson tied for 30th at 7-over 223. She finished the tournament with a final round 5-over 77. Lakareber Abe recorded her second consecutive round of 74 (2-over), while she tied for 42nd at 11-over 227. Cammie Gray's final round of 83 was dropped from Alabama's team score, as she finished at 33-over 249 in 70th.
Texas A&M laid claim to the SEC Championship at 13-under 851, followed by South Carolina at 1-under 863. Vanderbilt finished third with a 3-over 867, while Tennessee was fourth at 14-over 878. Alabama rounded out the top-five at 20-over 884.
Next up for the Crimson Tide is NCAA Regional Championship play on May 7-9 at a site still to be determined. Alabama will find out their destination to one of three NCAA Regional locations on Monday, April 27. 2015 regional sites include Raleigh, N.C., South Bend, Ind., San Antonio, Texas, and St. George, Utah.
