TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama softball is ranked at No. 5 this week in both the USA Today/NFCA poll and the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, released Tuesday.
Alabama is holding steady at No. 5 for the third straight week in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll and slid down one spot in the USA Today/NFCA poll, as undefeated LSU jumped Alabama into a tie at third place with Michigan. The Tigers are ranked No. 2 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, trailing Florida as the unanimous No. 1 team.
All nine SEC teams that have been ranked all season remain in the top 25 this week, including three in the top five and five in the top 10: Florida (1/1), LSU (3/2), Alabama (5/5), Georgia (8/8), Tennessee (9/15), Auburn (12/14), Kentucky (14/12), Texas A&M (19/21) and Missouri (21/19). Mississippi State and South Carolina are also receiving votes outside the top 25.
Last weekend, Alabama opened SEC play with a dominant sweep over Ole Miss, shutting out the Rebels in three games by a combined score of 23-0. The series was capped by Sydney Littlejohn's perfect game on Sunday, the first ever by an Alabama pitcher at Rhoads Stadium. It was just the third in program history and makes her the only pitcher at Alabama to ever throw multiple perfect games.
Alabama is set to host UAB Tuesday, March 10 at 6 p.m. in Tuscaloosa before hitting the road for a three-game series at Georgia this weekend. The series begins on Friday, March 13 at 5 p.m. CT. Saturday (2 p.m.) and Sunday's (1 p.m.) games will be aired live on the SEC Network.
