Alabama Soccer Falls to Missouri in Overtime, 2-1

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama dropped a 2-1 overtime decision on Friday night in women's soccer action at the Alabama Soccer Complex. The Tigers scored the game-winning goal just 21 seconds into the overtime period to drop the Tide to 5-10-2 overall and 2-7 in SEC play.

The Tigers' Jessica Johnson scored the golden goal when she deposited a loose ball rebound into an empty net from six yards out. The goal was set up by Reagan Russell, who ripped a shot that forced goalkeeper Emily Rusk made a diving save to stop. However, the loose ball ricocheted right to Johnson's foot, who then tapped home the game-winner.

"I told the girls I was disappointed for them and not in them," head coach Wes Hart said. "I thought we did a great job fighting our way back in the game. Missouri is a good team who is sitting right at or near the top of the league, so for us to be able to battle and compete with them shows we are close. It wasn't the prettiest of soccer, but we found a way to make the game competitive and I was proud of the effort."

Missouri (8-4-4, 6-2-1) struck first in the 16th minute of play when defender Lauren Flynn connected on a header off a corner kick from Kaitlyn Clark, giving the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.

The score remained that way until the 81:14 mark when Alabama's Chatham DeProspo scored her third goal of the season. The goal was set up when defender Jordan Meier connected on a header that was saved on the goal line by a Missouri defender. DeProspo then gathered the loose ball and drilled a shot into the right side of the net, just past the diving Mizzou goalkeeper.

The Tigers held a 21-11 shot advantage for the match, including an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. Rusk finished the night with six saves, compared to two saves by Missouri.

Alabama will return to the pitch on Sunday afternoon when it hosts Mississippi State in the final regular season home contest. Sunday's match will kick off at 2 p.m. CT and will be televised live on SEC Network.
