TUSCALOOSA, Ala . - Alabama Softball's road to the 2015 season officially began today, as the team held its first team practice of the season Tuesday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium.
Though individual workouts had been held since the beginning of the school year, Tuesday was the first day that the 2015 team got to work together on the field. Alabama returns 13 players from last season's SEC Championship team and welcomes five freshmen, including two recent walk-on additions Rachel Bobo and Kayla Rettig.
The first day of practice focused on the fundamentals, as the team went through throwing drills, baserunning drills, fielding and hitting. Pitchers Leslie Jury, Sydney Littlejohn and Alexis Osorio worked in the bullpen with Assistant Coach Stephanie VanBrakle while Head Coach Patrick Murphy, Associate Head Coach Alyson Habetz and Volunteer Assistant Coach Molly Fichtner guided the rest of the team through practice.
During the month of October, fans will have four opportunities to see Alabama play at Rhoads Stadium. Each game is a doubleheader and tickets are just $5. The first game is on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 1:30 p.m. CT against Middle Tennessee State. Alabama will play Mobile College at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19, Belhaven College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25 and West Alabama on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 1:30 p.m.
Last season, Alabama won its fifth SEC Championship behind a 19-5 conference record, winning all but one SEC series during the season. The Crimson Tide ended the season with a 53-13 record, playing in its ninth Women's College World Series and making it to the championship game for the second time in three years. It was Alabama's 16th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and 10th-straight appearance in the Super Regional round.
