Talley Begins Play at World Amateur Team Championship

KARUIZAWA, Japan - Alabama golfer Emma Talley began play at the Women's World Amateur Team Championship Wednesday morning on the Oshitate Course.
The junior from Princeton, Ky., carded a 5-over par 77 for the United States, while teammate Alison Lee shot a 4-under par.
After round one, the United States sits in a four-team tie for seventh place at 2-under par 142, seven shots off Canada's lead.
The four-day, 72-hole tournament is hosted by the Japan Golf Association at the Karuizawa 72 Golf East Club on the 6,309-yard Oshitate Course and the 6,311-yard Iriyama Course.
Consisting of 130 countries, the International Golf Federation organizes the Women's World Amateur biennially in three different zones, with this year's tournament being held in the Asia-Pacific zone. The 2014 edition of the Women's World Amateur marks the 26th tournament and features 50 teams competing for the team championship. Each country is represented by three golfers, with the top two scores from each round counting toward the team total.
At the 2012 World Amateur Championship, The Republic of Korea became the first team to repeat as champions with a 13-under par 563, defeating Germany by three strokes.
On Thursday, Talley will tee off at 10:35 a.m. (JST) at the Iriyama Course. The United States is paired with Italy and Belgium for round two.
