
Soccer Plays LSU to a 1-1 Draw

BATON ROUGE, La. - The Alabama soccer team earned its first point of Southeastern Conference play as it tied LSU, 1-1, Sunday afternoon in a match televised on CSS. After the weekend the Crimson Tide moves to 5-2-1 overall and 0-1-1 in SEC action.
After Carlie Banks scored in the waning moments of the first half to give the Tigers an early advantage, but Pia Rijsdijk evened the score in the 51st minute for the Crimson Tide. The sophomore handled a Theresa Diederich pass and buried her fourth goal on the season.
Junior keeper Shelby Church played the full 110 minutes in goal, making two saves on the afternoon. LSU (4-2-3, 0-1-1 SEC) keeper Megan Kinneman was under duress for most of the contest as the junior made 11 saves.
Alabama outshot LSU, 27-9, with junior Kendall Khanna leading the way with seven shots. UA outshot LSU in every period, including a 14-4 advantage in the second half and a 4-0 margin in the second overtime.
Alabama will return to Tuscaloosa to continue SEC play as it welcomes Georgia and Mississippi to the Alabama Soccer Stadium. Georgia comes to town on Friday, September 21, with kickoff starting at 7 p.m. CT. Alabama and Mississippi will face off on Sunday, September 23, with kickoff coming at 1 p.m. CT.
