
Men's Golf to Play in Schenkel Invitational

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Alabama men's golf team continues its busy schedule with the 2012 Schenkel Invitational on March 16-18 at the par-72, 6,910-yard Forest Heights Country Club.
The Crimson Tide just returned from the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters on Monday and begins play at the Schenkel Invitational on Friday, March 16. The Schenkel Invitational is a 54-hole event played over three days.
Alabama is ranked third in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' Poll and will face a tough field this week at the Forest Heights Country Club. The 14-team field includes No. 2 Auburn, the No. 3 Crimson Tide, No. 15 North Florida, No. 23 Florida and No. 29 Virginia. The rest of the field consists of host Georgia Southern, Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Virginia and UAB.
The first four players in the Alabama lineup remain consistent with senior Hunter Hamrick, sophomores Cory Whitsett and Bobby Wyatt and freshman Justin Thomas. Junior Scott Strohmeyer joins the Tide as the fifth piece to the lineup in Statesboro.
Thomas boasts a No. 4 ranking in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. Wyatt and Whitsett are close behind at No. 30 and 32 respectively.
Alabama will tee off at 8:45 a.m. (CDT) on Friday from the first tee and will be playing with Georgia Southern and Vanderbilt.
