BATON ROUGE, La. - The women's basketball team suffered an 84-40 loss at LSU on Sunday to fall to 10-7 on the season and 0-3 against Southeastern Conference opponents, while the Tigers improved to 12-3 overall and 3-0 in league play. Alabama struggled offensively against LSU in addition to having just eight active players available in the game.
The Tide finished the game 15.2 percent (10-for-66) from the floor, while the Tigers were 60.4 percent on their attempts (32-for-53).
"Despite having injuries and people missing practice, we still had an opportunity in this game early on," said Alabama head coach Wendell Hudson. "We put up plenty of shots, but it just wasn't falling for us as it was for LSU. That was the biggest difference in the game. We really need to get everyone healthy and back at practice."
The Tide was led in scoring by junior Erin Hogue, who collected 10 points. Junior Meghan Perkins would end up with a career-high 12 rebounds.
LSU scored the first nine points of the game, which included a pair of three pointers, before sophomore Khristin Lee connected on Alabama's first points at the 16:55 mark. The Tigers continued to build upon their lead throughout the duration of the half and went into the break with a 26-point advantage. Alabama was able to cut LSU's lead down to nine as Perkins went coast-to-coast with the steal and layup. From that point, however, the Tigers would outscore the Tide 19-4 to end the half.
LSU was 63.3 percent from the floor during the first 20 minutes of the game, hitting 19 of its 30 attempts, while Alabama managed to hit five of its 29 attempts, good for 17.2 percent. In addition, the Tigers score 24 points in the paint compared to the Tide's two.
LSU continued to out-produce Alabama in scoring as the Tigers put up 19 points compared to the Tide's six during the first nine minutes of the half. LSU's largest lead would come at the 6:50 mark when it went ahead by 45.
Next up, Alabama returns to Foster Auditorium for the first of two straight home games when it hosts Mississippi State on Thursday, January 12. Tipoff is slated for 8 p.m. CT on Fox Sports South.
