TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama baseball team held the 28th Annual Fan Day on Saturday and welcomed more than 600 fans to The Zone at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The day concluded with the annual Fan Day Scrimmage, where the Grey squad posted a 7-3 win over the Crimson team.
The day began at 11:30 a.m. with a barbeque, hosted by the Alabama Grand Slammers. Following a lunch, which was prepared by members of the Grand Slammers, the Alabama baseball team signed autographs for the fans in attendance.
Following the meal and the autograph session, Grand Slammers coordinator Ron Hughson welcomed the crowd, the 2011 Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team was introduced and second-year head coach Mitch Gaspard provided the fans with an outlook for the upcoming season.
The day concluded with a nine-inning intrasquad at Sewell-Thomas Stadium, which began around 2:30 p.m. The game ended with the Grey team posting a 7-3 win over the Crimson squad.
The teams combined for 18 hits as Taylor Dugas, Brandt Hendricks, Brock Bennett and Josh Rosecrans had two hits each. Dugas and Hendricks, who homered in the sixth, had a pair of RBI. Brett Booth homered in the eighth inning for his lone hit of the day.
On the mound, Nathan Kilcrease threw three innings, allowing four runs on four hits with four strikeouts. Adam Morgan allowed two runs on three hits in three innings, and Trey Pilkington threw three scoreless innings in relief. Brett Whitaker threw a scoreless ninth inning for the Grey squad.
