FRANKLIN, Tenn. - The fourth-ranked Alabama women's golf team finished sixth at the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship on Sunday afternoon at the par-72, 6,281-yard Vanderbilt Legends Club.
The Crimson Tide shot an even-par 288 in the final round to finish at 5-under-par 859. LSU won the event with a 21-under-par 843 with Purdue in second place at 19-under 845. Southern California and UCLA tied for third at 13-under 851 while California rounded at the top five at 854.
"The only difference between this week and last week is that we didn't make the putts when we had birdie opportunities," Alabama head coach Mic Potter said. "That is golf. We just have to continue to keep giving ourselves opportunities, which we continue to do.
"We hit the ball pretty well and our ball-striking statistics were pretty good. There are going to be weeks where the putts just don't fall. I guess when you play average and you finish sixth and you shoot 5-under par, you can't be too upset about it."
Tide senior Camilla Lennarth paced the Alabama squad with a tied for fourth place at 7-under-par 209. Lennarth carded three sub-par rounds, including a 68, 71 and a final round 2-under 70. The 209 is the second-lowest 54-hole score of her career and gives her a 70.0 scoring average through the first two tournaments (six rounds) of the season.
Junior Brooke Pancake was a mere two strokes of Lennarth's pace and finished in a tie for ninth place at 5-under-par 211. She shot a 2-over-par 74 on Sunday with two bogeys on the back nine that dropped her out of the top five. Pancake has also been impressive through the first two events, posting two top-10 finishes while boasting a 70.33 scoring average.
The consistency that helped Alabama capture the NCAA Fall Preview just over a week ago to open the season was missing during the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship with the final three UA golfers finishing between 46th and 54th on the leader board.
Jennifer Kirby salvaged a frustrating tournament by making birdie on the final five holes of her final round to shoot 1-under-par 71. Kirby rebounded after opening with 76-74 in the first two rounds. She finished tied for 46th with teammate Stephanie Meadow at 5-over-par 221. Meadow shot 1-over-par 73 on Sunday after a 76-72 to open the event. Courtney Harter rounded out the Tide lineup with a tie for 54th at 7-over-par 223.
California's Pia Halbig captured medalist honors with a 13-under-par total of 203 after shooting rounds of 68, 67 and 68.
The Crimson Tide return to action on October 8-10 at the Tar Heel Invitational at the Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
