
Holcombe Wins Gold with Team USA

CARACAS, Venezuela - Former Crimson Tide All-American and current Alabama Director of Softball Operations, Ashley Holcombe helped guide the United States Women's National Team to gold in the XII ISF Women's Softball World Championship in Venezuela this weekend.
Holcombe, the starting catcher for Team USA, joined forces with some of the best softball players across America to will the red, white and blue to a dominating performance at the world championships. The U.S. went a perfect 10-0 in the championship, outscoring their opponents by an amazing 95-6.
Team USA defeated Japan in the championship game 7-0, with Cat Osterman and Monica Abbott throwing a combined two-hit shutout. Jessica Mendoza led the Americans at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance and two runs scored.
The USA Softball Women's National Team will now go on to compete in the KFC World Cup of Softball at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. The World Cup will take place July 22-26. The event, which will feature the top three finishers from the world championship - the United States, Japan and Canada - will be broadcast live on ESPN and ESPN2 with all games simulcast online at ESPN3.com.
