Football Team Has 12 All-SEC Selections

HOOVER, Ala. - The defending national and Southeastern Conference champion Alabama Crimson Tide had 12 players named to the 2010 All-SEC Media Days Football Team, the league office announced Friday.
Alabama had eight first-team All-SEC selections and four second-team All-SEC honorees. Junior running back Mark Ingram and junior linebacker Dont'a Hightower were the top two vote getters. Ingram, the 2009 Heisman Trophy winner, garnered 165 votes, while Hightower received 158 votes.
The Crimson Tide's 12 total All-SEC selections equal the most in SEC Media Days history since records were first kept in 1992. Florida also had 12 selections last season. The Crimson Tide's eight first-team picks are also an SEC Media Days record, tying the Gators' total from 2009.
Joining Ingram and Hightower on the first team were sophomore running back Trent Richardson, junior wide receiver Julio Jones, sophomore offensive lineman Barrett Jones and senior offensive lineman James Carpenter on offense and
junior defensive lineman Marcell Dareus and junior defensive back Mark Barron on defense.
The Crimson Tide's second-team selections include senior quarterback Greg McElroy and junior center William Vlachos on offense, junior linebacker Courtney Upshaw on defense and junior return specialist Julio Jones on special teams.
Alabama and Florida were projected to meet in the 2010 SEC Championship Game in Atlanta on Dec. 4. The Crimson Tide received 143 first-place votes in a poll at SEC Media Days.
Alabama was projected to win the SEC Western Division title and received 157 points. The Crimson Tide was followed by Arkansas (2nd), Auburn (3rd), LSU (4th), Mississippi State (5th) and Mississippi (6th).
Florida was the preseason favorite to win the SEC Eastern Division with 153 total points. The Gators were followed by Georgia (2nd), South Carolina (3rd), Kentucky (4th), Tennessee (5th) and Vanderbilt (6th).
Earlier this week, the Crimson Tide had nine players named to the 2010 preseason Coaches All-SEC Team, including a league-high six first-team honorees. The first-team selections included Ingram, Julio Jones and Barrett Jones on offense and Dareus, Hightower and Barron on defense. The second-team picks were McElory, Richardson and Carpenter on offense.
