TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama softball team checked in ranked No.5 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll and No. 7 in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll. The Crimson Tide finished the week 5-1 after sweeping South Carolina and earning victories over FIU and Kentucky.
The top-25 teams in the country remained the same in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll, as announced today by the Amateur Softball Association. After six weeks of action, the Washington Huskies stay at No. 1 with all 25 first-place votes despite its second loss of the season coming from DePaul. The Arizona Wildcats remained close behind at No. 2 while Michigan moved into the No. 3 spot with a 4-1 record at the Judi Garman Classic including win over Arizona.
Tied for No. 9 are Oklahoma, who recorded a 5-3 weekend, and Stanford who climbed two spots after a 5-0 run at the Stanford Louisville Slugger Classic. LSU jumped up to No. 12 with five SEC victories and currently is riding a 21-game win streak.
The Tar Heels fell three notches suffering three losses, two coming from ACC foe then No. 9 Georgia Tech. The University of Illinois who recorded a 5-1 weekend performance advanced from No. 22 to No. 20 this week. Ohio State fell to No. 22 after going 2-3 at the USF "The Game" Tournament.
In a week that saw 20 of 25 ranked teams lose at least one game, the Washington Huskies garnered 29 of 30 first-place votes to stay on top of the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 poll for the seventh straight edition of the rankings.
Michigan moved to second in the poll, while Arizona fell to fourth in the only change to the top five this week. The other two top-five teams from last week, Missouri and UCLA, held steady at third and fifth, respectively.
No. 23 Louisiana-Lafayette was the only team to drop out of the poll this week, marking the first time this season the Ragin' Cajuns have been unranked. Baylor was the only new addition to the rankings this time around, rejoining the fray at No. 25.
