"I thought this was our best performance in awhile," Alabama head coach Todd Bramble said. "The players did a great job executing the game plan and at times I thought we were the better team. You have to give Tennessee credit they were aggressive with their chances in overtime."
Both teams had their share of chances throughout the match, but a run down the far sideline by Tennessee (9-8-1, 6-3-1 SEC) forward Chelsea Hatcher set up the game-winner by Dowd. Hatcher sent a cross from the far sideline that Dowd was able to bring down and slip in for the win.
The Lady Vols out-shot the Crimson Tide, 19-16, with both firing off four shots in the overtime periods. Dowd led all players with eight shots. Freshman Kendall Khanna paced Alabama with three shots.
Alabama goalkeeper Justine Bernier allowed the one goal and made four saves while Molly Baird tallied her fifth clean-sheet of the season on the strength of six saves.
Alabama will wrap up the regular season when it heads to Auburn to face its instate rival. The two teams will meet on Friday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
