
Shelley Godwin Named Assistant Coach at Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Shelley Godwin, who lettered on the women's tennis team from 2006-2009, was named assistant women's tennis coach at Michigan State University on Monday. She will replace Mariusz Adamski who returned to his native Poland to pursue other opportunities.
Most recently, Godwin interned with the Southeastern Conference helping in all facets of the leagues day-to-day operations in addition to its baseball tournament and other various media opportunities. She also served as a tennis instructor at the Alabama Tennis Camp throughout her years in Tuscaloosa where she helped train high-school athletes.
As a student-athlete, Godwin had a very successful four years at the Capstone both on and off the court. She collected 59 singles wins and 29 doubles victories throughout her career. Her senior season was, arguably, her best as she became a member of Alabama's "21 Club," which is for players who win 21 or more singles matches in a season. She began the 2009 dual-match season with nine consecutive wins, including the clinching victories in the Crimson Tide's come from behind wins over Arkansas and LSU. For those performances, Godwin was named SEC Player of the Week for the first time in her career. She capped off her fall season by winning the B Draw of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Southern Regional Championships.
Godwin racked up several awards while at Alabama including the ITA/Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership & Sportsmanship for the South Region in 2009. She is a four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient and two-time member of the ITA Scholastic Team. She was named to the President's List in 2005 and 2008, as well as the Dean's List in 2007. Godwin was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee from 2006-2009 and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Leadership Team from 2007-2009. Godwin spent countless hours in the community performing various activities including orchestrating the ALS walk team for the Alabama Athletic Department.
A native of Birmingham, Ala., Godwin graduated from Alabama in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science.
