Crimson Tide Defeat Charlotte in Callaway Collegiate Match Play

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - The Alabama men's golf team knocked off Charlotte in the opening round of the consolation bracket at the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championships on Monday afternoon at The Farms Golf Club.
The Crimson Tide won three of the five head-to-head matchups against the 49ers to advance on to face Duke in the second round of match play.
Redshirt freshman Hunter Slatton was the Tide's top finisher in medal play on Sunday and defeated Charlotte's Stefan Wiedergruen in to No. 1 position 5 and 4. Fellow redshirt freshman Hunter Hamrick followed suit in the No. 2 spot with a 1-up win over the 49ers Corey Nagy.
Alabama's third win came from senior Matthew Swan who overcame a two-hole deficit through 11 holes to beat Paul Ferrier 1-up to clinch the Crimson Tide win. Redshirt freshman Spencer Cole halved his match with the 49ers Ryan Wilson while senior Matt Hughes fell 2 and 1 to Blake Stark in the No. 5 position.
The Crimson Tide are slated to play Duke in the second round of consolation match play and will then close out the tournament with a single match on Tuesday.
