
Women's Golf Finishes 14th at UCF Challenge

SORRENTO, Fla. - The No. 5 University of Alabama women's golf team shot an 11-over-par 299 on Tuesday during the final round of the UCF Challenge to finish 14th at the par-72, 6,356-yard Red Tail Country Club.
"It was our first tournament of the spring, and we have some work to do," Alabama head coach Mic Potter said following the final round on Tuesday. "We found out what we need to work on, and now we need to go out and practice effectively to make sure we don't make the same mistakes."
The Crimson Tide recorded 885 strokes over the 54-hole tournament to finish at 21-over par and in 14th place. It was the first time Alabama has finished outside of the top 10 during the 2008-09 season.
No. 1 UCLA captured the tournament title with a 14-under-par score of 850 that included a 7-under 281 in the final round. Second-ranked Arizona State finished second at 7-under-par 857 with No. 5 Oklahoma State third at 861.
Tide freshman Brooke Pancake was the team's top finisher with a 2-over-par total of 218 that included a 4-over 76 in the final round. She finished tied for 23rd position, one stroke ahead of teammate Kathleen Ekey, who fired a 73 on Tuesday to finish at 3-over-par 219 in a tie for 28th.
Sophomore Camilla Lennarth posted the Crimson Tide's low round on Tuesday with an even-par 72. She finished tied for 43rd at 5-over par 221 after rounds of 77, 72 and 72. Sophomore Courtney Harter posted a 6-over 78 in the final round and slipped into a tie for 61st at 11-over 227 for the tournament. Rhea Nair shot an 85 in the final round and finished with a 54-hole total of 246. Laura Goodwin, who competed as an individual, finished tied for 79th at 235.
UCLA's Stephanie Kono (-8, 208) began the day tied for 12th place but rallied for the win behind a 6-under-par 66 in the closing round to edge Florida's Jessica Yadloczky (-7, 209) by one stroke.
Alabama returns to action at the First Market Bank Intercollegiate on March 21-23 at the Ford's Colony Country Club in Williamsburg, Va.
