
Nine Questions with Amanda Locke

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Rolltide.com and the Alabama softball team present its fourth athlete for nine questions. Select players and coaches will check in weekly on Rolltide.com and answer questions pertaining to things on and off the field. The fourth edition features freshman Amanda Locke.
Rolltide.com: You bring a lot of power to a lineup that is full of All-American … how do you can help the team at the plate and how will all the talent in the lineup help you?
Locke: As a hitter having a lot of power I am able to bring in runs when needed and I hope to be able to contribute. Our lineup is filled with a lot of secret weapons each hitter has their own unique qualities that make our lineup as strong as it is. I feel very lucky to be a part of such a talented lineup.
Rolltide.com: What was it like to put on the Alabama uniform for the first time and play for the No.1 team in the nation?
Locke: To put on the Alabama uniform for the first time was the most amazing feeling I have ever experienced. What was even better was to be able to run out onto the field with my teammates in front of the best softball fans in the country.
Rolltide.com: You had a huge weekend in front of the home crowd for the first time with three home runs … what was that like?
Locke: Being able to play with my team in front of the Alabama softball fans was one of the most memorable experiences I've ever had and is something that I will never forget. It was the perfect way to begin my freshman season.
Rolltide.com: Being a redshirt freshman, what was it like to go to the Women's College World Series but not be able to play?
Locke: To me it didn't matter if I was playing or not, to be able to be in Oklahoma City on biggest stage in softball with my teammates was one of the most memorable and rewarding experiences.
Rolltide.com: What did you learn by taking in a full season from the dugout?
Locke: I was able to learn from some of the greatest players and coaches in the country. There was a side of the game that I had never experienced before and I feel so grateful to have been exposed to it my first year here.
Rolltide.com: Do you have a favorite professional baseball team and why?
Locke: Growing up I had never really followed professional baseball but I have always enjoyed watching talented players and teams.
Rolltide.com: If you could play another sport in college what would it be?
Locke: throughout my high school career I had always enjoyed playing volleyball but I was always more passionate about softball.
Rolltide.com: When did you start playing the game of softball?
Locke: I started playing tee-ball when I was four.
Rolltide.com: Why did you choose to go to the University of Alabama?
Locke: Ever since I came to the University on a visit and met the coaches and players I was not only in awe of the campus and softball program but was also convinced that there was no other place in the country I'd rather spend my collegiate career.
