TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama baseball team held its first practice of the preseason Sunday afternoon, which concluded with an eight-inning scrimmage at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
Alabama began the day with infield and outfield defense, pitcher fielding drills and base running before the scrimmage.
"It was a good first day," Alabama head coach Jim Wells said. "We had great weather and we were glad to get out on the field with the first day of practice. I think things went well."
The Crimson Tide used eight pitchers on Sunday, with right handers Austin Hyatt, Jimmy Nelson and Austin Evans and left-handers Del Howell, Adam Morgan, Miers Quigley, David Head and Kelby Deerman working two innings each.
Alabama's offense was paced by junior Clay Jones, who went 4-for-4 with an RBI double and senior Kyle Moore, who went 3-for-4. Senior outfielders Kent Matthes and Tyler Odle both added an RBI double.
