OUTLOOK:
         David Head has the potential to be one of the Tide's front-line pitchers in 2010 ... he        gained experience as a spot starter and reliever last season, despite and up-and-down year        ... he had a promising two-year career at Chattahoochee Valley Community College ... he        pitched for a junior college team that won 82 games, including 38 conference games, during        his two-year career ... posted a 13-6 (.650) record and 2.97 ERA in 32 career appearances        ... recorded 129 strikeouts in 162 2/3 innings ... added six complete games and four        shutouts.
CAREER POSTSEASON NOTES:
         Head made one mound appearance during the 2009 SEC Tournament at Regions Park ...        he worked two-thirds of an inning and allowed one run and two hits in the Tide's        elimination game loss to eventual SEC Tournament champion LSU on May 21 ... yielded a        pinch-hit home run to LSU's Derek Helenihi.
JUNIOR (2009):
         Appeared in 12 games, making 10 relief appearances and two starts ... earned        first career win against Jacksonville State on May 12, his first appearance on the mound        since April 7 (sore left elbow) ... as a reliever, Head was 1-3 with one save and an 8.44        ERA in nine games (19.1 IP, 26 H, 19 R, 19 ER, 6 BB, 24 K) ... two starts came against        Auburn (March 10) and Troy (April 7) ... threw two scoreless innings and recorded the save        in his UA debut against SE Missouri State (2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K) on Feb. 20 ... suffered        first loss and blown save in series finale against SEMO (0.2 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 1BB, 0 K) on        Feb. 22 ... threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings against Nicholls State (4.1 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5        K) on Feb. 25 ... he allowed a season-high seven hits, all singles, in the game as UA        rallied from 7-0 deficit for an 8-7 win ... struck out a season-high six batters against        No. 1 Georgia on March 15 ... earned first career win against Jacksonville State (4.1 IP, 3        H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K) on May 12 ... made postseason debut against LSU at 2009 SEC Tournament        on May 21 and allowed pinch-hit, three-run home run to Derek Helenihi ... he made one        relief appearance in the three-game exhibition series against Cuba ... allowed two unearned        runs and four hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings during the Tide's 6-2        loss on Dec. 17 ... it was the longest relief outing by any UA pitcher in Havana.
SOPHOMORE (2008 - Chattahoochee Valley CC):
         In his final season at Chattahoochee Valley, he was 8-3 (.727) with a 2.83 ERA in        17 games ... added five complete games and three shutouts ... worked 89 innings and allowed        28 earned runs and 89 hits with 27 walks and 74 strikeouts ... held opponents to a .257        batting average ... led team to a 41-18 overall record, including a 19-11 record in the        Alabama Junior College Southern Division ... ranked eighth in the state in ERA, 10th in        wins, 17th in innings pitched per game (5.235), 18th in strikeouts per nine innings (7.48)        and 21st in opponents batting average ... recorded season-high 11 strikeouts against        Jefferson State on May 3 ... posted six-game winning streak from March 29 through May 3,        with wins against L.B. Wallace, Faulkner University, Wallace State-Selma, Bishop State,        Southern Union and Jefferson State.
FRESHMAN (2007 - Chattahoochee Valley CC):
         As a rookie, Head posted a 5-3 (.625) record and 3.13 ERA in 15 games during his        first season at Chattahoochee Valley ... added one complete game and one shutout ... worked        74 2/3 innings and allowed 26 earned runs and 74 hits with 27 walks and 55 strikeouts ...        held the opposition to a .254 batting average ... helped team to 41-17 overall record and        19-11 mark in Alabama Junior College Southern Division ... ranked 15th in the state in ERA        and 22nd in strikeouts per nine innings (6.63) ... pitched six or more innings seven times        in 2007, including a nine-inning win over Jefferson State on Feb. 19 ... also earned wins        over Central Alabama, Wallace State-Hanceville, Wallace State-Selma and Bishop State ...        recorded a season-high seven strikeouts against Faulkner State on March 17.
HIGH SCHOOL:
         A 2006 graduate of Stockbridge (Ga.)
