The Tide will be gunning for its sixth win of the season after defeating North Florida, 73-51, on Wednesday evening to improve to 5-2 behind Tony Mitchell's game-high 17 points. ULM rides a two-game losing streak into Tuscaloosa after falling, 76-73, to Louisiana Tech at home on Wednesday to fall to 3-4 on the season.
"ULM has a good, explosive team that's very well coached with a good point guard in Tony Hooper," said Alabama head coach Anthony Grant. "They're another team that shoots the ball well from three-point range and is an athletic and veteran team. On defense, they do a great job of mixing up their defensive looks and have played a very competitive schedule so we know we'll get a great effort from them."
The Warhawks are coached by former Alabama assistant Orlando Early who was on the UA bench from 2001-05 before taking over the reins at ULM. This is the second time he has returned to Coleman Coliseum with the last being a 75-61 loss on November 28, 2006.
As a team, ULM averages 73.1 points per game and converts on 44.7 percent of its attempts while the team's 33.7 rebounds are evenly distributed with no player averaging more than five per game. Point guard Tony Hooper leads the Warhawks with 13.7 points per game and is a 48.6 percent three-point shooter while Lawrence Gilbert is second on the ULM roster in scoring with 12.7 points per game with a team-high 4.9 rebounds per game. Against Louisiana Tech, Hooper scored 23 points with six three-pointers.
Alabama is led by point guard Mikhail Torrance's 15.7 points per game on 53.6 percent shooting with 5.2 assists per game. Forward JaMychal Green trails closely with 14.7 points and a team-high 7.4 rebounds per game and has two double-doubles already this season and nine in his career.
The Tide hit a season-high nine three-pointers against North Florida and Alabama's top two three-point shooters, Anthony Brock and Charvez Davis, are shooting a combined 43.6 percent from behind the arc this season. Davis has converted on 50 percent of his attempts in the last two games with seven three-pointers to give Alabama a scoring spark off the bench.
The meeting is the sixth in the series with Alabama winning all five previous meetings and scoring 80 or more points in four of them.
Tickets for Saturday's game are $12 for adults and $8 for youths and are available by clicking here or by calling the Alabama athletic ticket office at 205-348-BAMA.
