TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama head softball coach Patrick Murphy announced the signing of Ryan Iamurri Monday. Iamurri will come to the Capstone from Naples, Fla., where she attends Naples High School and plays for her father Robert.
"Ryan had a great summer with her ASA team and will provide us with a versatile lefty bat," Murphy said. "She can hit away, slap and bunt. Having her Dad as her high school coach gives her some great intangibles as well. She could probably run practices and do a great job."
Iamurri has been a three-year starter for Naples and has already etched her name in the record books. The utility player that has found time in both the infield and outfield is coming off a season where she was named the Florida 4A Offensive Player of the Year, an ESPN Rise second team All-American, and a NFCA Louisville Slugger All-American.
She also participated in the Under Armour All-American game and was an Academic All-American on top of earning All-State honors for the second consecutive year. She broke NHS records in batting average (.563), on base percentage (.703), walks (24) and runs scored (43).
Iamurri has led NHS to a 4A state championship in 2008. On top of her skills on the diamond she has also been an all-county selection on the NHS golf and soccer teams. Iamurri has been her class vice president for the last two years and is currently ranked fifth in her class academically.
