TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The No. 12 Alabama women's golf team is set to compete in its third tournament of the season at the Tar Heel Invitational hosted by North Carolina, which gets underway on Friday, Oct. 9.
The Crimson Tide will be one of 18 teams vying for the title on the par 72, 6,201-yard UNC Finley Golf Course. The event consists of 54 holes over three rounds beginning on Friday and concluding on Sunday.
Junior Camilla Lennarth has set the tone for the Tide in the early stages of the season, notching two top 10 finishes in as many events. The Stockholm, Sweden, native finished tied for eighth at the NGCA Match Play Qualifier before tying for seventh at the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship.
Lennarth has fired sub-par rounds in three of the four rounds she has played and is currently the 15th rated individual in the Golfweek/Sagarin Index.
Sophomore Brooke Pancake is off to a solid start in her second campaign at UA and is coming off a tie for 15th place at the Mason Rudolph in which she shot under par in both rounds. Pancake is tied for second on the team in scoring average with freshman Jennifer Kirby at 72.75.
Lennarth, Pancake and Kirby will all compete at the Tar Heel Invitational with junior Courtney Harter and senior Rhea Nair rounding out the Tide lineup.
The Tide faces another competitive field at the Tar Heel where 13 of the 18 teams are ranked in the Golfweek/Sagarin Index top 30. Alabama enters as the fourth highest rated squad behind top 10 teams Auburn, Denver and Michigan State.
Five Southeastern Conference teams are slated to compete with No. 25 South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt joining Alabama and Auburn in the event.
Alabama is coming off a 7th place finish at the rain-shortened Mason Rudolph Women's Championship. The Crimson Tide fired a 280 (-8) in the first round, the second lowest 18-hole team score in UA history.
