
Women's Golf Finishes Fifth at Duramed Fall Preview

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The No. 10 ranked Alabama women's golf team finished one of the most prestigious fall tournaments with a fifth place finish. The Crimson Tide recorded a final score of 886 (+22) at the Duramed NCAA Fall Preview at the Caves Valley Golf Club. Alabama fired its best round of the tournament with a 290 (+2) Monday to seal the top-5 finish.
"It is not only great for our program to participate in this prominent of an event but to be able to compete with the nation's elite this early in the season says a lot of where we are at," head coach Mic Potter said. "Obviously it is just the first tournament of the year and we still have a lot of room to improve and golf to play."
The No. 2-ranked Sun Devils won the Duramed NCAA Women's Golf Preview with a combined team score of eight-over par 872. Southern California placed second at 16-over par 880, three strokes ahead of third place finisher Virginia (19-over par 883). Georgia placed fourth (20-over par 884).
Freshman Brooke Pancake led the Crimson Tide with a 217 (+1) to finish tied for seventh overall in her first tournament at the collegiate level. Pancake turned in a final round of 71 (-1) to secure a place in the top-10. The Chattanooga, Tenn. native recorded nine pars on the front nine and then tallied birdies on the par-4 11th and 14th.
Sophomore Camilla Lennarth placed tied for 12th with a 219 (+3). Lennarth came into the clubhouse with a 74 (+2). The Stockholm, Sweden native recorded all pars on the back nine and birdied the par-4 second.
Junior Helena Blomberg capped off the tournament tied for 30th overall with a final score of 226 (+10). Blomberg tied Pancake for the low round of the tournament with a final round score of 71 (-1). The Uppsala, Sweden native tallied a team-high four birdies on the round.
Sophomore Courtney Harter tallied a 54-hole score of 232 (+16) while senior Kathleen Ekey carded a 233 (+17) to finish tied for 44th overall. Harter came into the clubhouse with a final round score of 74 (+2) while Ekey tallied an 83 (+11).
Alabama will continue its fall schedule at the Cougar Fall Classic. The Crimson Tide will open play at Yeamans Hall in Charleston, S.C. on Sunday, Sept. 14. Alabama will play three rounds of 18 which will end on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
