
Goodwin and Blomberg Garner NGCA All-American Scholar Honors

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama women's golf duo of Laura Goodwin (Birmingham, Ala.) and Helena Blomberg (Uppsala, Sweden) were named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team. Goodwin and Blomberg continue to bring in the academic accolades for the Crimson Tide.
A total of 402 women's collegiate golfers were recognized with the prestigious honor. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50% of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.

For Goodwin, it marks the second academic All-American honor on the season as the Birmingham, Ala. native was named an ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American. Goodwin garnered the honor on the heels of another 4.0 performance in the classroom as a Human Performance and Health Science major.
The 2008 NGCA All-American Scholar honor earns the award for the second consecutive year. She was also an Academic All-SEC selection and was also named to the All-SEC Community Service team earlier this season. Goodwin finished the 2007-08 campaign with a 76.95 stroke average. The junior had her best tournament on the season at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, where she fired a 54-hole score of 226 to place 13th overall.
Blomberg was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll as well earlier in the summer. The Uppsala, Sweden native played in nine tournaments and recorded three top-10 finishes. She tallied a 75.14 scoring average which ranked fourth on the team. Her best finish was sixth at the Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate and finished that tournament with her best 54-hole score of 219. Blomberg recorded a total of six rounds at even par or below.
