
Swimming and Diving Celebrates Season with Awards Banquet

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama Swimming and Diving teams celebrated the accomplishments of the 2007-08 season, one during which Alabama finished in the top 25 nationally, with an end of the year awards banquet.
"We had a great year, one where everyone improved through the season, getting better and better," head coach Eric McIlquham said. "We're such a young team and there's so much room for improvement, I'm excited about where we're headed. We built the foundation for our future this season and there's no doubt that we will continue to move ahead year-by-year."
Sophomore Aaron Fleshner, the 2008 Southeastern Conference 3-meter Diving Champion and two-time All-American, earned the Mike Currington Most Valuable Award. In addition to winning his first SEC title, Fleshner took third at the NCAA Championships off the 3-meter board and scored off the platform.
Sophomore Agustina de Giovanni earned the Christine Jarvis Most Valuable Award after a season that saw her shatter the school 400 IM record, earn All-American honors and score in the 200 breaststroke and 400 IM at the NCAA Championships. She also ranks in the Crimson Tide's all-time top 10 in eight different events.
