Tide Is 20th In 200 Free Relay At NCAA Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Alabama finished 20th in the 200 freestyle relay during day one of the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on the campus of The Ohio State University.
The Crimson Tide foursome of freshman Ida Persson, junior Vanessa Von der Heyde, sophomore Brooke Baldi and senior Erin Sparks touched the wall at 1:32.18. Persson, Von der Heyde and Sparks will join with sophomore Agustina de Giovanni on Saturday to compete in the 400 freestyle relay.
In other action during day one of the championships, de Giovanni was 33rd with a 2:00.34 while Sparks finished 54th with a time of 2:02.83 in the 200 IM. Sparks will swim the 100 breaststroke and de Giovanni will swim the 400 IM on Friday. De Giovanni owns the school record in the 400 IM.
Persson was 54th in the 50 freestyle with a 23.22 while Von der Heyde was 69th with a 23.59. Persson will compete in the 100 butterfly on Friday and both she and Von der Heyde will swim the 100 freestyle on Saturday.
