TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - After hitting the road for its first away contest of the season, the women's basketball team returns home for a matchup with Alabama State on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 6:00 p.m. (CST). The Crimson Tide currently sits at 2-1 on the season, while the Lady Hornets come in at 1-2 overall.
"This is our shortest turnaround of the season thus far, but that is part of basketball," said Head Coach Wendell Hudson. "We didn't come out as fresh as I would have liked to in today's practice, but we are going to work more tomorrow afternoon and be ready for the game in the evening. This will be a good test for our team because we have to learn how to play on such short notice."
Alabama is coming off a 69-60 win over Hampton on Saturday. Sophomore Katie Hancock and freshman Ericka Russell combined for 29 points to lead the Tide. Alabama shot better than 40 percent from the floor, while holding the Lady Pirates to a 32.3 percent clip.
Alabama State also enters Tuesday's contest straight off a win. The Lady Hornets edged Murray State, at home, 61-59 over the weekend. Junior Briana Thomas netted a team-best 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds in the win. Coming off the bench, Assunta Fulgham added 11 points and L'Teisha Holloway contributed 10 of her own.
The Tide owns the 11-2 series advantage that dates all the way back to the 1975 season. In the last matchup between the two programs that took place on Dec. 5, 2001, Alabama State won on its home court 89-84.
Tickets for the game are available on Rolltide.com or by calling the Alabama Ticket Office at 1-877-TIDETIX. For those unable to attend, catch all the action live on the Crimson Tide Sports Network.
Following Tuesday's game, Alabama travels west for the holiday break to take part in the Nugget Classic in Reno, Nev. The Tide has a tough first-round game against No. 10 Louisville on Friday, Nov. 28. Alabama will then face either Nevada or Northern Iowa on Saturday, Nov. 29.
