TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - No. 2 Alabama used a 24-point first half and enough defense in the second half to keep its unblemished record alive, winning 24-20 over Mississippi Saturday in front of a capacity crowd at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. The win takes Alabama to 7-0 overall, 4-0 in the Southeastern Conference on the year. Mississippi falls to 3-4, 1-3 in conference play.

5 Senior tight end Nick Walker had an active day in the passing game against Ole Miss, matching his career-high with 5 catches and setting a new career-high with 65 receiving yards highlighted by a 40-yard catch-and-run in the third period. That gain was the longest catch of his Alabama career (previous long: 34 vs. Mississippi in 2005). Walker also had 5 receptions against Clemson on August 30 in Atlanta.
16 The number of true freshmen to see action for Alabama this season after Chris Smelley made his Crimson Tide debut on Saturday against Mississippi. He played on special teams early in the game and also saw playing time at tight end, making a third down 16-yard catch on a Crimson Tide scoring drive in the second quarter. His older brother, Chris, is the starting quarterback at South Carolina. With 16 members of the 2008 signing class seeing action this season, Alabama is now tied with Arkansas for third nationally in terms of true freshman participation in 2008. Only Florida State (22) and Miami of Florida (21) have played more first-year players than the Tide and the Razorbacks.

Mississippi took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter in Saturday's game at Bryant-Denny Stadium, marking the first time this season the Tide had trailed in a game. The Alabama offense responded with a 4-play, 7-3-yard drive, capped by John Parker Wilson's 26-yard pass to Marquis Maze.
219 Alabama senior quarterback John Parker Wilson threw for a season-high 219 yards in the win over the Rebels. Wilson completed 16 of 25 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns in leading UA to its eighth straight win. His previous high was a 215-yard performance in the Tide's 42-7 win over Western Kentucky on Sept. 20.
300 Alabama picked up its 300th all-time win in Tuscaloosa with its 24-20 win over Mississippi. The Crimson Tide has played 362 of its 650 home games in Tuscaloosa and has a record of 300-59-3 in those games.
