TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - In line with the University of Alabama athletic department's ongoing mission of involvement in service to the University and its surrounding community, the department has announced its intention to participate in the 2007 "Together We CAN Drive".
In coordination with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the Tide athletic department will collect canned food items at several athletic events from Sept. 21-30. The items collected at the Capstone will be donated to the West Alabama Food Bank.
Games where canned food items will be accepted include soccer matches on Sept. 21, 23, 28 and 30 and home volleyball matches on Sept. 23, 28 and 30. Start times for all of these events can be found on the department's web site, www.RollTide.com.
The "Together We CAN Drive" is a league-wide effort, with all 12 schools in the Southeastern Conference participating. Each SEC institution will distribute donated food items to food banks in their respective areas.
The effort is one of many community service events planned and carried out by the Crimson Tide athletic department, including the "Beat Auburn, Beat Hunger" campaign that has brought in thousands of pounds of donated food throughout the last several years.
