ALABAMA ON THE ROAD AGAINST USM
The 13th ranked University of Alabama baseball team plays its first road game of the 2007 season when the Crimson Tide travels to Pearl, Miss., to face the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in a 7 p.m. (CST) on Tuesday, March 6. The game will be played at Trustmark Park, the home of the Southern League’s Mississippi Braves (Class AA affiliate of the Atlanta Braves). Alabama (12-2) brings a six-game winning streak into the Southern Miss game after a three-game sweep of McNeese State in Tuscaloosa over the weekend. The Crimson Tide notched its first extra inning win of the season with a 4-3 victory in 10 innings in the series finale. The Southern Miss game is the first of five games this week for the Crimson Tide. Alabama returns home on Wednesday, March 7 to face Tennessee Tech and then hosts Nebraska (March 9-11) this weekend. No. 28 Southern Miss (10-2) is coming off a series win over then-No. 29 UL Lafayette this past weekend in Hattiesburg.

SOUTHERN MISS SERIES
Alabama holds a 68-23 series lead over Southern Miss. The teams have met on an annual basis since 1997 (except 2003) and the Crimson Tide owns a 12-1 record in those meetings. USM snapped an 11-game series losing streak with a 7-4 win over Alabama in 2005. The game at Trustmark Park will be just the third neutral site game in series and first since 1979 when the two teams met in Jackson.
THE HEAD COACHES
Alabama head baseball coach Jim Wells (Northwestern State, 1980) is the winningest coach in school history. He has compiled a 535-248 (.683) record in 13 seasons at the Capstone. Overall, Wells has posted a 727-337 (.683) record in 18 seasons. Wells is 12-1 (.923) in his career against Southern Miss. USM head coach Corky Palmer has compiled a 347-212 (.629) record in 10 seasons in Hattiesburg. Palmer is 1-10 (.091) in his career against Alabama.
STARTING PITCHERS
Alabama will send senior right-hander Bernard Robert (Denham Springs, La.) to the mound against Southern Miss. He is 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA in three appearances this season. Robert has worked 10 innings and allowed six hits and two earned runs, with three walks and seven strikeouts. Robert posted two wins last week against UAB and McNeese State. Southern Miss will counter with freshman right-hander Todd McInnis (Brandon). McInnis is 2-0 with 2.08 ERA in two starts this season.
BAMA RIDING SIX-GAME WINNING STREAK
Alabama brings a season-high six-game winning streak into Tuesday’s game against Southern Miss. Alabama’s six-game winning streak is the longest active streak by an SEC Western Division team and the third-longest active streak in the SEC behind Vanderbilt (14) and South Carolina (12). During the streak, Alabama is batting .359 (79-for-220) with two home runs and 44 RBI. The Crimson Tide is averaging 8.5 runs (51) and 13.2 hits (79) per game during the recent winning streak.
