TUSCALOOSA ?? The Alabama women’s basketball team is set to play its fourth ranked opponent in its last five games on Thursday, Feb. 8, when the Tide plays host to 14th-ranked Georgia in Coleman Coliseum. The game is being televised live on Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS) beginning at 8 p.m.
The Tide is looking to bounce back after two rough outings in its most recent games in the Southeastern Conference. Alabama fell behind early on the road against its instate rivals Auburn and highly-ranked Vanderbilt, and never recovered in either game to fall to 0-9 in the SEC and 10-14 overall this season.
Senior Kate Mastin was the Alabama leader in those games, scoring 18.5 points per game on the strength of nine three-pointers in the two games. She scored 21 points and drained five treys in the loss at Vanderbilt.
Alabama was also hampered in the game at Vanderbilt with the loss of leading scorer Navonda Moore, who missed the game after a mild concussion she sustained in the latter stages of the Auburn loss. Moore is expected to play against Georgia on Thursday night.
Alyson Butler, a freshman who had started the four games prior to the Vanderbilt outing, also missed the contest due to illness.
The Lady Bulldogs (19-5, 6-3) are once again among the leaders in the SEC, but are looking to rebound after a loss at No. 4 Tennessee on Monday night. Georgia’s only league losses this season have been to the Lady Vols (twice) and at highly-ranked LSU.
Junior Tasha Humphrey leads UGA and is one of the best post players in the league. She scores 17.5 points per game while grabbing 7.8 boards per night. Guard Cori Chambers also averages in double figures for the Lady Dawgs, scoring over 13 points per outing.
Five hundred Alabama women’s basketball lunch boxes will be given out at the Tide-Lady Bulldog contest.
The Tide hits the road for the second consecutive weekend on Sunday, Feb. 11, when UA travels to Ole Miss for an SEC tilt. Tip off for that game is slated for 2 p.m.
