Women?s Golf Splits Matches at Hooters Collegiate

KISSIMMEE, Fla. ?? The Alabama women's golf team split its two matches Monday to advance to the final day of competition at the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship. The Tide dropped its second round match up to second-seeded Florida and then downed rival Auburn in the third round.
Alabama fell to Florida by the score of 4-1-0 but then rallied to defeat Auburn 3-2-0. The Tide, who sport the No. 10 seed was able to drop the No. 3 seed Tigers out of the competition.
In the Florida match up, Rhea Nair earned the lone victory for Alabama. Nair handled Brittany Nelson 2&1. Laura Goodwin put in a solid performance for the Tide by halving the match up with Ornella Jouven.
Against the Tigers, the Tide took care of its instate rival. Helena Blomberg, Camilla Lennarth and Kathleen Ekey all earned victories for UA.
Blomberg handled Marisa Milligan 5&4 while Lennarth defeated Cydney Clanton 4&3. Ekey beat Candace Schepperle 5&3 to give the Tide the victory.
No. 1 seed Duke and No. 6 seed Georgia were victorious in their semi-final matches today to advance to the Finals of the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship for Women at the Ginn Reunion. Duke defeated #5 Tennessee 4-1 and Georgia beat local favorite Florida 3-1-1.
Alabama will face No. 13 seed Texas A&M in the fifth place match up. The Aggies defeated No. 9 seed Oklahoma State to advance to the final day of competition.
