TUSCALOOSA, Ala ?? Third-year head women’s golf coach Mic Potter has announced the signing of Brooke Pancake from Chattanooga, Tenn. Pancake will begin her Alabama career in the 2008-09 season.
“I am thrilled that Brooke has chosen to join the Crimson Tide women’s golf team,” coach Potter said. “Brooke is both an outstanding player and student, and is the personification of the type of student-athlete that we want to build this program around. While Brooke has had an outstanding junior career, winning four consecutive Tennessee State High School Championships, I feel that her best golf is ahead of her, and that the sky is the limit on how good she can be.”
Pancake will bring some hefty credentials to the Capstone. Pancake won the Tennessee State High School Championship the last four years, and is the only player ever to win the event in four consecutive years. Pancake holds the 18 and 36-hole scoring record in the Tennessee State High School Championship.
Pancake is ranked No. 26 in the class of 2008 by the American Junior Golf Association. She has finished in the top 10 in eight of her 15 AJGA tournaments over the past three years.
Pancake will graduate from Baylor High School in May. She is the daughter of Bruce and Debbie Pancake.
Pancake will join a Tide team that put together one of its strongest fall seasons in program history. Alabama was a mainstay in the Top 25 and was ranked No. 9 after capturing the Wildcat Fall Invitational.
Alabama will tee off its much anticipated spring schedule on Feb. 24 at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. The three-day event will be held at the Coco Beach Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
