TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?? Three Tide players from the University of Alabama women’s basketball team participated in Red Ribbon Week. Nathalie Reshard, Dedrea Magee and Tamara Williams visited University Place Elementary School to aid the school in drug prevention.
Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country. Although the start end dates can vary slightly depending on the organization and source, Red Ribbon Week generally takes place the last full week in October, with the weekends before and following the last full week included as appropriate celebration dates. This year Red Ribbon Week will be celebrated October 20-28, 2007.
Red Ribbon Week serves as a vehicle for communities and individuals to take a stand for the hopes and dreams of our children through a commitment to drug prevention and education and a personal commitment to live drug free lives with the ultimate goal being the creation of drug free America.
The visit marks the second week in a row that the Tide went out into the community. The team had lunch with local elementary school students last Tuesday. The Tide visited seven different schools in the Tuscaloosa area.
The University of Alabama women’s basketball team will host a free kid’s clinic for kids ages 5-12. The clinic is scheduled for Saturday, November 3 from 9-11:00 a.m. in Coleman Coliseum. Alabama will tip-off its exhibition slate against the University of West Alabama on Wednesday, 31. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Coleman Coliseum.
