
Women?s Basketball to Open Official Practice Saturday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?? The Crimson Tide women's basketball team will open its 2007-08 season with its first official practice Saturday, October 13 in Coleman Coliseum. The Tide enters its third year under head coach Stephany Smith, who's Crimson Tide will hit the floor twice in the opening day of practice, with the first slated for 8:30 a.m.
"Opening day is always an exciting time across the country for both players and coaches, and we're no different here in Coleman Coliseum," coach Smith said. "I've been very pleased with the individual progress made during the offseason as well as our current work ethic and enthusiasm."
Coach Smith welcomes back an experienced sophomore class in addition to a highly touted crop of freshman. All the sophomores who return for their second season for the Tide saw significant time on the floor as freshmen.
Alabama's initial practice begins at 8:30 a.m. and lasts until 10:30 a.m. In the second session, the Tide will hit the floor at 2 p.m. and practice until 4 p.m. All Alabama fans are welcome to observe either practice on Saturday. Most practices will be open to the public.
"We had a productive six week preseason which revealed the continued growth of our program," coach Smith said. "We welcome the next phase of our journey in rebuilding Crimson Tide women's basketball."
The Tide plays its first exhibition game on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. against West Alabama and faces Tulane on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. in the season-opener in Tuscaloosa.
