TUSCALOOSA ?? The Crimson Tide women’s basketball team hosts its second-straight Southeastern Conference game on Thursday night when it welcomes Kentucky to Coleman Coliseum. Game time is set for 8 p.m. and is set to be televised by Fox Sports Net, with Leah Secondo and Van Chancellor calling the action.
Alabama (10-7, 0-2) is in search of its first victory in SEC action after dropping a hard-fought loss to instate rival Auburn on Sunday afternoon. The Tide came back from an 11-point deficit late against the Tigers, but wasn’t able to overcome the lead down the stretch en route to a five-point loss.
True freshman Talisha Chandler has played some of her best basketball of the season in the first two league games and leads the Tide in scoring in SEC action, averaging 12.5 points per game. She scored a career-high 14 points at No. 4 Tennessee last week and tallied 11 against Auburn.
Kentucky (12-4, 1-0) has won eight of its last nine outings, with the only loss coming on the road to No. 7/8 Ohio State on Sunday. The Wildcats, one of the best turnaround stories in the SEC the past few seasons, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year. One of the top defensive units in the league, UK ranks in the top five in points allowed and field-goal percentage defense this season.
The Tide returns to the road in SEC play on Sunday, Jan. 14, when UA travels to Columbia, S.C., to face South Carolina in its second road game of the conference season.
