
Women's Soccer Drops 3-1 Decision to Vanderbilt

Nashville, TN - The University of Alabama fell to Vanderbilt University 3-1 at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex Friday night in front of a crowd of 447. It was the Tides first Southeastern Conference road game this season but the third time that Bama has played at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex. They opened the season at the Commodore Classic in August against the Univ. of Colorado and Univ. of Denver.
"We were encouraged as a staff the way that we came out and played hard and played with Vanderbilt, I thought we have some quality opportunities tonight that we have not had in a long time," head coach Don Staley said. "We still have a long way to go in this season, now we have to get ready to go play at Kentucky."
Vanderbilt (6-1-4, 2-0-1 SEC) was able to strike first in the 27th minute of the first half. Monica Buff placed the corner kick two yards out from the left post where Amy Baumann's header gave Vanderbilt the 1-0 lead. The Commodores added to the lead at 21:08 in the second half on a goal by Lea Lafield making the score 2-0.
Alabama (4-7, 0-3 SEC) was able to get cut the lead to 2-1 when senior Gillian Kilburn scored from 16 yards out at 13:33 in the second half. Vanderbilt added the final goal at with 11:34 left in the game when Nicole Lukens knocked in the header from 5 yards out.
Alabama will continue the SEC road trip at Kentucky on Sunday at11:00 a.m. The Tide will return home on October 6 against SEC west foe Mississippi State at 7:00 p.m.
