NASHVILLE, Tenn. ?? The Alabama women's golf team shaved three strokes off of its first-round score, but failed to move up in the team standings in the second round of the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship. The Tide remains in 14th place at the event, which is being played on the Vanderbilt Legends Club's Iron horse Club.
The Tide fired a 302 in second-round play after recording a 305 in the opening round to own a 607 cumulative score after 36 holes of action.
Alabama is competing in one of the most highly decorated fields in the nation at the Mason Rudolph, as five of the country's top-10 teams are in attendance. Two-time defending NCAA champion, Duke, leads the team standings after two rounds over No. 6 Georgia.
All-American senior Jenny Suh was the leader for the Tide on the day, as she came back from an opening round 76 to post a three-under 69 in the second round. It was Suh's second round under par this season and was one stroke off her season and career best 68. She is tied for 14th place in the individual standings.
Sarah Sturm, who led the Tide in the first round with a 75, followed that effort up with a 76 in the second round. Her 151 36-hole mark was good enough for a tie for 45th place on the individual leaderboard.
Sophomore Laura Goodwin, who carded a career best 217 at the team's first tournament of the season, shot a 79 in today's second round and is tied for 65th place.
Also competing for the Tide are true freshmen Helena Blomberg and Rhea Nair. Blomberg fired a 78 in the second round, while Nair finished with an 82.
The final round of the Mason Rudolph Championship is slated to begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17. Live results can be found at www.golfstat.com.
