For the third time this season, the Crimson Tide softball team had a player named the national player of the week as sophomore first baseman Dani Woods was named the NFCA National Player of the Week after her performance last week at Arkansas.
Woods was .500 (5-10) against the Lady Razorbacks with two doubles, six RBI and three runs scored while tallying a .700 slugging percentage in helping Alabama go 3-0 during the weekend and clinch its first ever SEC Championship with a series sweep of Arkansas.. She was also perfect in the field recording 25 putouts and registering a 1.000 fielding percentage. Woods drove in the game-tying run in Game 1 of the series and the game-winning runs in Game 2 of the series against Arkansas, which clinched the SEC Championship.
It’s the first such award for Woods and the third for Alabama this season. Stephanie VanBrakle was named the NFCA National Player of the Week on March 15. Dominique Accetturo was also named the nation’s top player earlier this season, but that was awarded from USA Softball.
