C.M. Newton Recruiting Suite to be Dedicated Wednesday

TUSCALOOSA - The C.M. Newton Recruiting Suite will be officially dedicated in a 4 p.m. CT ceremony in the Maisel Lobby of Coleman Coliseum Wednesday.
Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2000, Newton led Alabama to Southeastern Conference championships in 1974, 1975 and 1976 and appearances in four NIT and two NCAA Championships during his 12 seasons as Alabama's head coach. During his tenure at Alabama, from 1969-1980, Alabama had a 211-123 record. The Rockwood, Tennessee native who now makes his home in Tuscaloosa served on numerous NCAA Division I basketball committee, including serving as chairman of the NCAA Basketball Committee. He has served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and was an assistant coach for the USA's 1984 Olympic Basketball team. Newton was president of USA Basketball from 1992-96 and was instrumental in the selection of USA Basketball and the Olympics' original "Dream Team."
