The Crimson Tide finished the final seven and a half minutes on a 26-8 run while shooting 61 percent in the second half.
"They (Lipscomb) are a good basketball team," said
Junior college transfer Mykal Riley led all scorers with 21 points while also tallying a stat in every column. The
Gottfried was proud not just of Riley's performance but of his team's effort as well.
"Obviously, Mykal Riley made some big shots," Gottfried said. "But I think a lot of guys did some things well."
Senior Jermareo Davidson, playing one day after attending his brother's funeral, became the 40th member of
Sophomore forward Richard Hendrix, averaging 18.4 points and 10.2 rebounds entering Friday's game, recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Junior point guard Ronald Steele scored eight points and had six assists, but credited the Bisons' defense for their tough play.
"You have to give Lipscomb all the credit," said Steele. "They came out and played well and hit some good shots. The way they played with four guards is kind of different from the style we are used to playing against. They caused us trouble."
The Crimson Tide continued their rebounding tear, pulling down 39 to Lipscomb's 24. It's the sixth consecutive game and 11th time in 13, that
"Verice Cloyd wasn't with us tonight. He's contemplating transferring. Like a lot of young players, he wants to play. Playing time is a real issue there. We are going to do everything we can to help him. He has 18 hours under his belt here at Christmas of his first year of college. He has a 2.7 GPA. He has been very, very good academically. If he chooses to transfer, we will help him in any way we can. He's been very, very good here with us but kids want to play. I have no problems helping guys with those decisions."
