Banners and Signs: Temporary banners and signs are not permitted in Independence Stadium for the PetroSun Independence Bowl. Concessions Concession stands are located throughout Independence Stadium, both on the ground level and along the upper concourse. In addition, vendors service all sections of the stadium, prior to and during the game. They will feature an assortment of items, including dishes with a southern flair. First Aid: Independence Stadium is equipped with one first aid station. The station is located in the north endzone area. Ambulance service is available during the game. Game: The PetroSun Independence Bowl is scheduled for Thursday, December 28, 2006 at 3:30 p.m., central standard time. Governing Body: The Independence Bowl Foundation is a nonprofit organization incorporated under the laws of the State of Louisiana to promote, sponsor and stage an annual postseason intercollegiate football game in Shreveport, Louisiana. Handicap Assistance: Ticket holders needing handicap assistance to their seats can use the elevators located on the west and south sides of Independence Stadium, and carts will be available, at the bottom of the ramps to assist east side ticket holders. History: The first Independence Bowl was conceived by a group of local businessmen in the year that the United States of America celebrated its 200th Birthday. The inaugural game was played on December 13, 1976 with a matchup of McNeese State and Tulsa at what was Shreveport's State Fair Stadium. For the past 30 years, the Independence Bowl has served as the post-season home for some of the top teams in college football. Independence Stadium: Independence Stadium seats 48,949 and is located on the State Fair Grounds in Shreveport, Louisiana. The City of Shreveport recently finished a $30 million renovation project that increased capacity, created a true bowl shape, added luxury suites and a club level, as well as a new south endzone structure with new seating. Completely new concession stands and restrooms were also added on ground level. Prior to the 2002 bowl game, the Independence Bowl Foundation renovated the press box, increasing capacity to more than double what it was in the writers' area, as well as the radio and coaches booths. Also added were two athletic director's suites on the upper level. Lost and Found: Lost and Found is located in the southwest corner of Independence Stadium at the Security Office. For further assistance, contact the nearest Shreveport Police Officer or usher. Lost Patrons: Lost patrons should contact the nearest police officer who will escort them to the Security Office, located in the southwest corner of the stadium. Matchup: Each year, participants in the PetroSun Independence Bowl will be chosen from the Big 12 Conference and the Southeastern Conference, with the visiting and home conference switching each year. Once the selection process has been completed by the Bowl Championship Series, the PetroSun Independence Bowl has the seventh choice from the Southeastern Conference and the sixth choice from the Big 12 Conference. Our conference agreements run through the 2009 game. Messages: Only calls dealing with extreme emergencies will be paged over the public address system. Any emergency announcement broadcast over the public address system must first be cleared through the press box manager or the Director of Media Relations in the press box. TV Broadcast: ESPN will again serve as the television home of the PetroSun Independence Bowl. The first Independence Bowl to be televised by ESPN was the 1992 matchup of Oregon and Wake Forest. That began a partnership that is now in its 14th year, and extends through the 2009 game. Cash-only parking lots are available around the State Fair Grounds and will be open on game day. Parking in these lots is $5. There will be a limited number of available spaces. Handicap Parking: Handicap parking is located adjacent to the north side of Independence Stadium in a designated lot, as well as on the north side of Hirsch Coliseum. Participating Teams' Revenue: Universities will receive checks totalling at least $1.1 million per team for their participation in the PetroSun Independence Bowl. Since the game's inception in 1976, the Independence Bowl has awarded nearly $37 million to higher education through team payouts. Photography: You may take still photos of the game from your seat. Video cameras are not permitted inside the stadium. Prohibited Items: No outside food or drinks, coolers, video cameras or umbrellas are allowed inside Independence Stadium. Restrooms: Men's and women's restroom facilities are located throughout the stadium, both on the ground level and along the upper concourse. For your convenience, attendants will be stationed in the restrooms. RV Parking: RV spaces are also available on the Louisiana State Fair Grounds. The price, including hook-up is $50.00 per day.
