Tuscaloosa. AL?? The University of Alabama soccer team will finish the 2006 season at Auburn Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
“Auburn is not only the last game on our schedule but our natural rival” head coach Don Staley said. “This has been a very close series (the series is tied at 6-6-2) over the years with close games. Throw out the records and playoff implications, it is Alabama and Auburn so it is always going to be a big game.”
Alabama (5-13, 1-9 SEC) will play the final game in their 2006 campaign Friday evening but Auburn (10-4-3, 4-3-3 SEC) is still battling for a spot to play in the Southeastern Conference Tournament and a SEC West Title. Should Auburn defeat the Tide they will win the SEC West and a spot in the SEC Tournament. Should Alabama upset the Tigers, they could be completely eliminated from the post season, pending upon other games around the SEC.
The Tide will look to send out their three seniors with a win and retain possession of the “Iron Bowl of Soccer Cup.” The winner of the annual battle between the two schools retains the cup until the next seasons game. Alabama has had the cup proudly displayed in their team room trophy case since last years 6-3 victory in Tuscaloosa.
