2006 (Freshman): Fitzgerald was the punter for the Crimson Tide in all 12 games. He punted 52 times for 1,993 yards, an average of 38.3 yards per punt. He had 18 punts downed inside the 20-yard line. His longest punt of the year was 55 yards in the season opener against Hawaii. Five of his six punts against Florida International were downed inside the 20-yard line. He also placed three of his six punts inside the 20-yard line against Mississippi State. Fitzgerald averaged 43.5 yards on two punts against Louisiana Monroe with one punt downed inside the 20-yard line. He averaged 43 yards on four punts against Auburn with a long of 53 yards and one punt downed inside the 20-yard line. He set a career-high with nine punts for 371 yards and a 41.2 average with a long of 50 yards at Tennessee. He also had two tackles against the Vols. He had five punts against Duke for an average of 40.2 yards per punt with a long of 51 and one downed inside the 20-yard line. Fitzgerald also served as the holder on extra point attempts and field goals.
2005 Redshirted
Prep: A third-team All-State punter as a prep senior, P.J. averaged 40.0 yards per punt while also playing quarterback. As a sophomore and junior, he earned honorable mention All-County honors while playing for Coach Elliot Bonner at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
Personal: He is the son of Kimberly and Robert Fitzgerald. He has two older brothers, Robert Fitzgerald, Jr., and Steven. He is in pre-major studies.
