Former Crimson Tide All-American catcher Ashley Courtney has been named to the National Pro Fastpitch East All-Star team.
Courtney is currently hitting .377, which ranks second on her team and 15th in the league. She also has a .481 slugging percentage.
“I was surprised when I got the call,” said Courtney. “This is the point where you realize that you belong in this league. To get to play alongside all these other talented players, many of which are Olympic gold medalists, is simply an honor.”
Players from the New York Juggernaut, New England Riptide, and Akron Racers will form the East squad and all-stars from the Chicago Bandits, Texas Thunder, and Arizona Heat will make up the West club.
The Riptide currently owns a 23-16 record and sits 5.5 games outside of the fourth and final playoff spot with eight games left in the season.
The All-Star Game will be played on Saturday, August 27th at the Bandit's home field at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill. The game will be televised on August 28th at 4:00 p.m. on ESPN2.
